In Memoriam
Chapter 85 has suffered a great loss in the passing of Ikenobo Professor Toshiko Shimoura. For nearly fifty years, through flowers, she promoted cross cultural understanding between Japanese and Americans by sharing her Japanese heritage. In September of 2014, she was one of only ten people in the United States to be presented with the Foreign Minister’s Commendation by the Government of Japan.
Toshi epitomized strength of spirit, graciousness, and generosity of knowledge. She was one of the original members and a past president of Chapter 85, and president of the Ikenobo Society of Michigan. Our members have deeply benefited from her creative talent and giving nature. She was the heart and soul of our group and will be forever missed.
